Configure SiteLock SMART scans on Managed and Fully Managed servers

Note: As of June 1, 2017, Malware Removal is no longer available for purchase by GoDaddy customers. For our latest security product, please check out Website Security.

By default, SMART is set up on your Managed or Fully Managed server. However, its default configuration does not remove malware for you automatically; using these instructions you can change that.

  1. Log in to Malware Removal.
  2. Go to the Settings tab.
  3. Go to the Download Settings tab.
  4. Make changes to the following fields:
    Field New Value
    Select a speed... Select Fastest.
    Maximum Download Time Select 120.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Go to the SMART Settings tab.
  7. Select Yes, remove malicious code automatically, and then click Submit.

If there are sections of your website you don't want SMART to scan, click Manage Exclusions and configure those options.

C3: To help you troubleshoot customers issues, here are possible SMART errors:

Could not connect to server: This occurs when invalid FTP login credentials have been given to the automatic malware scanner and it cannot connect to the customer's server to find the files to scan.

Max download time: You will see this message when the maximum download time per day was reached. This will happen on larger websites when SMART was not able to fully download the site. SMART will let you know that we could not synchronize all files and we will continue from where we left off tomorrow.
