What is email encryption
Email encryption is a way to protect data from being seen or tampered with by other people while your emails are in transit. If a message is intercepted or just ends up in the wrong hands, unauthorized parties can't read its contents.
While email encryption is a great add-on for anyone who sends sensitive information over the Internet, it’s a critical requirement for businesses in regulated industries.
For financial services, insurance, health care, legal, and real estate businesses, email encryption is a necessity to ensure they meet or exceed their industry’s prescribed level of protection for customer information.
How does email encryption work with Office 365?
Office 365 email is encrypted when it's on the Microsoft servers, "at rest." However, it isn't encrypted while it's being sent from one user to another.
To encrypt your emails while they're at rest, GoDaddy has partnered with Proofpoint to provide an email encryption product called Advanced Email Security.
When the Advanced Email Security add-on is set up, all mail is sent through Proofpoint, where the encryption filters and actions are applied. When you send encrypted mail to users outside of your organization, they receive a link to the message, within Proofpoint. They must create a Proofpoint user, to view the encrypted message content.
Your Office 365 inbox filters still function, and all email sent within your organization behaves as normal email, even when encrypted. Users in your organization do not have to log into Proofpoint to see mail, although it is still encrypted.
Your email is protected no matter what email client you use, including all Microsoft supported Outlook versions.
- After you purchase the Advanced Email Security add-on, you'll receive a confirmation and password set up email from Proofpoint. Create your account password and sign in to Proofpoint.
- Add the Advanced Email Security add-on to all Office 365 mailboxes on your account.
- Set encryption branding with your organization's logo and colors.
