Block or unblock senders as junk email

Your email server scans incoming messages for certain traits that identify it as unwanted junk. You can block an email address or domain so its messages are always considered junk. Or, to not move messages to your Junk Email folder, identify the email address or domain as a safe sender.

  1. Sign in to Outlook on the web. Use your Microsoft 365 email address and password (your GoDaddy username and password won't work here).
  2. In the upper-right corner, select Settings gear button Settings.
  3. Select Mail, then Junk email.
Left panel showing Mail and Compose and reply
  4. To block the sender, under Blocked senders and domains, select Add. Or, to identify the sender as safe, under Safe senders and domains, select Add.
  5. Enter the email address or domain, and select the Enter key (Return key on Mac).
  6. Select Save in the lower right corner.

Related steps

  • You can also mark an individual message as junk or not junk. Open the message, and from the top toolbar, select Junk, then Junk to move it from your Inbox to the Junk Email folder, or select Not Junk, then Not Junk to move it from your Junk Email folder to your Inbox.
  • Blocked or safe senders will also apply to Outlook for Windows or Mac. If you don't see your changes, make sure your Outlook is set up with Exchange.

More info

  • You can have up to 1,024 email addresses or domains as blocked or safe senders. If you select the filter Only trust email from addresses in my Safe senders and domains list and Safe mailing lists, your contacts are added to the Safe list, which might make you reach the limit. Using domains instead of email addresses can help reduce the list.
  • Messages are permanently deleted from the Junk Email folder 30 days from their arrival.
